What Being Dead Feels Like: Obsessing Over Sudden Death and a Wacky Trip to the Afterworld
February 23, 2023  /  206 pages  /  Fiction
Christian, a novelist, battles obsessive compulsive disorder and dyslexia. He wastes countless hours dealing with low-probability obsessions such as his two-year-old daughter, CeeCee, dying from rabies as the result of a bat bite going unnoticed. His wife, Ava, a defense attorney with a turbulent past, is much smarter than him. His stepdaughter, Ruth, is determined to single-handedly rid the country of social injustice. His father, Winkler, likes to drink, sing karaoke, and hit on young women at the bar. He shares some of the same mental health issues as his son but hides them. Then there's the old man who reminds himself he could die at any minute. What Being Dead Feels Like is a story that mixes dark humor, political and religious satire, current events, marital issues, mental illness, and domestic violence. It includes a trip to the afterlife where everything tastes like a colonoscopy prep drink.
