Most everyone is going to read to it regardless of what the reviews say. Which they should because it has lots of little tidbits about the series overall, and makes reading worthwhile. For me, personally, I would've liked it to be shorter. It was overly bland at times. This could have been so much better if it was told from Lucy Gray's POV. She has spunk and I felt like she would have been a better candidate for MC. Her story felt a whole lot more interesting...because honestly, Snow blows.

I have... thoughts. For now I'm just going to say... why couldn't this have been from Sejanus' perspective? Snow was a literal sociopath, but it was hella fun and interesting to see the history of this world, and how the Games became what they were in Katniss' time.

the writing quality was so much better than the first three books. i liked the story less, and the characters less quite frankly, but was nonetheless enthralled and appreciated the wealth of detail this book offered. not once did i find myself thinking that i could have, would have added more details to a scene myself had i written it, and that's something i'm used to because i've mostly read fanfic for a while up until this past week. wanted to branch out with these.

While the writing was great, and the little things she woven through the story were good, I just didn't care. I don't care about who President Snow was as a teenager. I don't care about how he because the man we see in the Hunger Games books. He isn't particularly likeable in the story to begin with, so it's hard to stick with it. I read it to see how it ended for the secondary characters, and how it all tied together. to sum up, from B99 "cool motive, still murder."
