This is my first zombie book and I am afraid will now be spoiled in the genre forever! Great story, GREAT characters (especially Melanie), great detail, but not too much. Reading through, I was constantly conjuring up images of what it might look like, but Carey leaves room for the reader to fill in some gaps. The science was balanced well with the post-apocalyptic world, and its all underpinned by a real-life zombie-esque fungal parasite found in nature. Super cool! Addicting, fun, engaging.

My first thought after reading this book was: Biology is a bitch. This was my first zombie book and I loved every minute of it. Melanie was a very interesting character to read and then there was Caroline Caldwell who played the role of the evil scientist perfectly. The plot was nail bitingly fast-paced and action-packed and what an ending.... I totally didn't see that coming!

The protagonist's point of view was unique and interesting, but the narration suffered when the under-developed secondary characters jumped in, despite the extra information they revealed. And even as a sciency person, I found those parts boring and difficult to get through. However overall the story was compelling and the descriptions vivid, and I loved the full-circle, thought-provoking ending.

This book was phenomenal. Loved the fast paced style that was full of tension. This one is going on the keeper shelf. Brilliant!

A good science fiction story set in the near future with a believable zombie apocalypse. I quite liked the premise and thought it was a refreshing take on what might happen to us at some point or other. I wasn't the biggest fan of the execution or the writing style and the middle dragged somewhat, but I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone who likes post apocalyptic novels.
