I really wanted to like this book more. I thought the idea was good, the execution less so. Though this is the first of her books I've read, I find Rice's writing to be somewhat dry and boring. It could be on purpose, but I think I just don't love her style of writing. That being said, it was still a pretty good story. I'd be interested in reading The Vampire Lestat and The Vampire Armand. I give Rice props for being among the first to write about vampires in a different way, loooong before the

I don't like Anne Rice. I've tried. It's soo not worth it. I found this book Boring.

I'd been wanting to read this book for a while as I'd always heard good things about Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles... Maybe it's just this book, but I ended up having to force myself to finish it. I didn't like the slow pace and I really didn't like the continuous whining and total lack of action from the main character. I'm really hoping that the other books pick up, but it will be a while before I start them. I feel like this book did nothing but exhaust and annoy me.

This book presents a rich history, but I didn't see much value in the interview style narration. The book got too bogged down in philosophical questions which made this a very slow read that didn't really stick with me afterwards.
