A great short story compilation (although it doesn't feel like one). Each story is riveting and full of action. This is a great companion to the video games and I recommend it to any fantasy fan!

Probably because of the translation from the original language, the writing is not always the best, but the stories are always good and a great link if you play the games. Definitely an enjoyable read.

Nice, easy read. Enjoyable despite not having played the games. There are some very fun twists on familiar fairy tales.

Having experienced this fantasy realm through the video game format (for hours and hours and hours of beasts and spells and Gwent), Sapkowski's introduction to Geralt is an enjoyable source of interesting backstory. Many of the short stories feel like levels of a game, with cut-scene-styled dialogue and fast-paced battles. But there are sluggish parts, especially when important exposition occurs within lengthy monologues. Thankfully, Geralt's wit does not get lost in translation at all.

Thought I would try this book series after watching the Netflix TV show, & I found I enjoyed this short story collection via audiobook even though a lot of the plots were covered in the show. The world's fairy tale inspirations are a lot more evident in the book versions, but I found the fresh (sometimes wry, sometimes philosophical) takes on the subjects of old folk tales were fun & held my interest. Taciturn, but thoughtful Geralt was a winning protagonist, even with his Yorkshire accent.
