The writing style is a little better over the first novel, and the plot is very riveting. However, the storyline's foundation is almost a transplant of Storm Front, and I hope this series doesn't become formulaic. For example, he gets a call, he investigates, Murphy thinks he a bad guy, she tries to arrest him, he goes lone-wolf(pun intended)... You get the point.

The book was a fairly solid work of urban fantasy. The humor interlaced throughout the events is well done. The real high point of the book was the ending. It was superbly done and left me wanting to read the next book.

I enjoy the stories but frankly the writing is second rate at best. Jim Butcher repeats himself over and over again. I'm really hoping he quits copying exposition from his first Dresden novel fairly soon. if I have to read Harry Dresdens explanation for thaumaturgy or why technology doesn't work around him one more time I'm going to puke.

A nice enough book but not one I couldn't put down. Harry is in trouble, gets beaten up a lot, keeps secrets, gets knocked out, gets in life-threatening situations, narrowly escapes said situations, has a conversation with his subconscious self and helps save (kind of) the day. I really liked that he is not the imbalanced super hero that can do anything and be anything without repercussions or limits. He sure has his limits and he stretches them with unpleasant consequences to his health. T
