A phenomenal book and a truly great addition to the Dresden Files thus far. The plot was much better structured than the previous and didn't feel like the entire world revolved around Dresden. The character work is also wonderful, with many characters being relatable.

The author used an event that happened between book 2 and the start of 3 as the source of the plot, but leaves out details that would have been solved the case if someone had just talked. The writing has seen some improvement, all-though the structure is very choppy. Harry still blunders around making easy mistakes, some that he sees coming and falls into to anyway to move the plot. Michael is a good character, but his background and relationship with Harry aren't really explained.

Once again, mediocre writing but above average story crafting. same complaints as before, a little to much copypasta of exposition from the first novel. Butcher knows how to leave a reading desiring more at the end of the novel though. Perhaps that's his true skill. He knows how to bring it on hard when it comes time for the rising action to give way a brief taste of satisfaction in the climactic final scene. The satisfaction of the climax though is quickly drowned out in the very brief closing

Another crazy adventure for Harry Dresden, who is once again in the middle of a mess. Strange things are happening, ghosts are causing more trouble than usual and a weird being is targeting Harry and his friends. Harry surpasses his limits again and again while trying to face the monsters that are threatening the people close to him and he simply refuses to back down, even when the odds are against him.
