I never read Little Women before *GASP*. I KNOW! I'm so glad I finally did though it was wonderful! I loved all the sisters (Jo and Beth especially) and their neighbor Laurie. The book moves at a easy pace and although not many big events happen, the entire story is interesting and just has a good flow to it. It goes through their lives as kids to adult women taking the reader through their adventures over the years. It is filled with good moral lessons and just overall a good read! Not much

I hate this book. I hate hate hate hate hate this book. This book is INSIPID. This book makes me feel like I need a trip to the dentist after merely looking at the cover. I hate this book. I hate Jo, and her supposed tomboyishness, and the fact that she is the most flat, and dull, and stupid character I've ever come across. I hate Amy, because she's a vapid idiot who contributes nothing to the story. I hate Meg, even though I don't remember anything about her. I HATE Beth more than them

I don't know what I could say about this that other have not said. Yes, the girls are superbly "goody-goody", and though they have flaws, they improve on them. There's no real antagonist, it's a bit dated regarding women's roles (well, in once sense; one could argue that actually it reveals Alcott's feminism quite strongly too)... but you know what? It was very pleasant to read. Really, it practically puts a smile on your face :]

While the wholesomeness can get rather absurd and annoying at times, May Alcott succeeds in sympathy for her characters with intimate and honest characterization.

The character development, family/social dynamics, and commentary on a women's role in society were eventually compelling enough to keep reading this lengthy novel, but they were buried in endless, pointless vignettes and morality tales, extoling the virtues necessary for young women. The author also took the most dynamic character and broke her of everything interesting about her to give her a "happy" ending that wasn't believable and in fact made me sad.
