After book one I was not really sure what the major plot was going to be other than "kill the dark one". Even though this is my second favorite book in the series, I feel like it did not really further the plot much. There is some wonderful character development and fun adventure! I like how in this book, many of the characters are still "innocent". They know little about the crazy world they are being thrown into.

An awesome addition to the series. I'm starting to think that this is a series I'm going to have to read through twice. There are plot points that are hinted at that apparently aren't noticeable until later events in future novels. That said, the POV switches between a few characters this time but I still enjoyed all of them.

This second book is doing much more to blur the lines between good and evil that were so stark in the first, and tries to add nuance to the main characters' decisions. Jordan used this book to introduce a huge slew of new characters and factions, so the plot points can feel lost or rushed at times. It is still as addictive as the first.

There's a little bit of teenage angst here and there, and it feels like all the girls fighting over Rand is a bit too male fantasy-ish, but the story is riveting without the narrative shackles the first one had.
