I love a strong, female protagonist; strong, female protagonist is Bella Swan not. Dear lord, I cannot emphasize that enough. This book was difficult to get through, due to the thematic elements not being very...well, thematic, actually. I didn't really feel much of a climax, or conclusion. It was pretty "meh" the entire way through. Kind of like how you would describe Bella: "meh."

Twilight is a pop culture favourite, written in an accessible style which has made it successful amongst a range of age groups. The story follows a teenager named Bella as she struggles with moving in with her father and coping with a new school; the plot taking a turn for the supernatural when her high school crush turns out to be a vampire. It had potential to become a sugary-sweet coming of age tale but I feel Meyer dropped the ball a little in her aim to detail the perfect 'flawed' couple.

I read this as a teenager, and even then I was really annoyed by Bella. I liked the story, but I hated being stuck in her head. There are just better vampire love stories.

I read this book back in high school before the Twilight craze took over. I feel like there is nothing special about this book, but there is not much to hate either. It was a quick read, the book kind of pulls you forward towards the end. All of the characters are kind of flat, but that is not unheard of for a YA novel. Vampires and werewolves are always pretty fun to read about. This time it is vampires and werewolves with some love thrown in the mix.
