When Ben De Backer comes out to their parents as nonbinary, they're thrown out of their house and forced to move in with their estranged older sister, Hannah, and her husband, Thomas, whom Ben has never even met. Struggling with an anxiety disorder compounded by their parents' rejection, they come out only to Hannah, Thomas, and their therapist and try to keep a low profile in a new school.
But Ben's attempts to survive the last half of senior year unnoticed are thwarted when Nathan Allan, a funny and charismatic student, decides to take Ben under his wing. As Ben and Nathan's friendship grows, their feelings for each other begin to change, and what started as a disastrous turn of events looks like it might just be a chance to start a happier new life.
At turns heartbreaking and joyous, I Wish You All the Best is both a celebration of life, friendship, and love, and a shining example of hope in the face of adversity.

(Grade: A–) This book is, kind of paradoxically, extremely sweet and balming. It deals with hard subjects, starting in the first chapter with our protagonist getting kicked out after telling their parents they are nonbinary. Ben's life gets turned upside down, and Ben's anxiety takes a turn for the worse. But in a book where the absolute worst happens, Ben finds themself surrounded by more support than they knew, and heals so that they can allow that support in, & allow themself to be loved as they are.

(Grade: B+) This book was compelling and the non-binary protagonist made it unique despite some YA tropes. The author made it natural and easy to empathize and root for the narrator, and the side characters were well-developed and genuine. The romance was well-balanced with the growth and healing of the main character, and I really felt for their development as friends and then more. Definitely recommend this book especially if you want to diversify your reading list to include more queer protagonists.

quinns113 (Grade: A) i’ve never read or watched anything with a main character that was like me, while ben isn’t entirely like me for many reasons i’ve never consumed media where a non-binary person is the main character and i didn’t know what i was missing it is the best feeling ever i 100% recommend to other non-binary people or anyone really

jrhartauthor (Grade: A+) Beautiful story that draws the reader in. While some nb readers will struggle with Ben's constant misgendering (they choose not to come out and are called he/him a lot), I found that to be realistic and honest. Story is heartbreaking and heartwarming, and I would love to see what happens for Ben in the future, and for Ben and Nathan. Ultimately rooted for Ben from the moment they walked around in the cold until the very last page.
