When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin-one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.
As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.
Perfect for fans of Kristen Cashore and George R. R. Martin, this first book in a sexy and action-packed new series is impossible to put down!

(Grade: C–) This is one of the very rare cases when the map at the front of a fantasy novel actually made me excited to read on. Maas draws a clear line between the human and immortal realms and then divides the magical territory into sectors with simple names and loads of creative potential. So it's a letdown to discover that the setting for this book is cramped, with Maas perhaps saving a wider scope for the sequels. Hopefully those books have more engaging characters, and please, no more corny riddles.

wizardsheart (Grade: A) This was a great book. A few fairy tales weaved in and compelling characters and this has me totally hooked. Highly recommended!

bookappeal (Grade: C) This "beauty and the beast" story will undoubtedly appeal to readers of fantasy romance with its descriptive settings and smoldering romantic tension. Though I would have preferred more scheming and less smoldering, Maas includes enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. The world building seems a little convenient in places but the real appeal is the attraction of star-crossed lovers.

(Grade: A) With the main character being a combination of Katniss, Cinderella, and Belle, this book could have been derivative and uninspired. Instead, it's one of the best fairytale reimaginings in recent years, with solid character development, beautiful imagery, and surprising twists. I tried to savor this story but ended up reading the last third in one sitting because I just had to find out what happened. Highly recommend this book, and very much looking forward to the sequel.

Alissa (Grade: C) 2.5 stars, nicely written, instalove, blond-haired, red-haired and black-haired gorgeous guys, an evil-queen, lots of telling and wonderful tropey predictability. The Throne of Glass series is better, anyway I have a weakness for Beauty and the Beast kind of stories, and this book was pleasant though it bordered on boring, I'm sure the author could have put more verve into it.
