They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . . Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

booknerd (Grade: A) Loved this new and different take on vampires and I am very happy to say that Rose is no Bella Swan. This girl sure knows how to kick ass. I absolutely loved Rose and Lissa's friendship and the chemistry between Dimitri and Rose. People who are tired of vampire books should definitely read this.

lalareads (Grade: C) Vampire Academy, the first of a young adult series isn't your typical girl meets boy/vampire novel. The story itself is original and vampires aren't what we know them to be- Moroi are...alive. Rose, the protagonist who is a Dhampir, a half Moroi vampire and half human, is destined to guard her best friend. Plenty of action and a forbidden romance with an older guardian leave me wanting more. The writing itself leaves a bit to be desired, but the plot makes up for it.

Thenia (Grade: A) First read: June 13th 2009 ~ 5 stars Re-read: April 26th 2014 ~ 4 stars Complex and fascinating world, strong and complicated characters and an interesting plot make this a very enjoyable book. She is immensely selfless when it comes to Lissa but she's also a bit shallow, prejudiced and to be honest a bit of a brat. Her high-handedness regarding Christian

bookappeal (Grade: C) Rose and Lissa are more than best friends. Lissa is part of a royal vampiric but peaceful race; Rose is one of the few female guardians who protect them. And they share a deeper bond that was formerly only true in folktales. They are returned to the Vampire Academy after running away and surviving on their own for a time. Neither is terribly happy to be back in school but they find there is much to learn about themselves and each other. As they re-integrate into school society, Rose strive

(Grade: B) This book was surprisingly good, however I did think the story was very predictable.
