way2benitski (Grade: A–) This book is a departure from my typical genres and I really enjoyed it. The world created with the Library at the center is a unique and intriguing concept. I was very eager to start the next book in the series.
It's not the best writing, but the style is not distracting.

(Grade: C–) A strong start and intriguing conclusion can't make up for this book's stock of shortcomings. Caine is working off an innovative premise — paper books are contraband in her alternate reality, putting strict controls on the spread of knowledge. Drama of all sorts could spawn from there, but the author chooses to shift away from the dystopian theme and introduce threads of political intrigue, war, and romance. These never mesh and the characters feel as if they have to be dragged through the plot.

(Grade: C) I'm not trying to say that this is badly written, actually, it's very well written. The alternate world is very imaginative and sounded spectacular to me when I read the synopsis for it. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into it. I think this is definitely a case of "It's not you, it's me...because this book is not lacking in 5-star reviews.
